Hymn To Netjer:
Asir
Taken from E.A.
Wallis Budge’s The Gods of the Egyptians Vol. 2
1. Homage to you, O Osiris, the lord of eternity, the king of the netjeru,
you who has many names, whose forms of coming into being are holy, whose
attributes are hidden in the temples, whose Ka is most venerated. You are
the Chief of Djedu, the Great One who dwells 2. In Sekhem (Letopolis),
the lord to whom praises are offered in the nome of Athi, the chief of
the divine food in Annu (On, or Heliopolis), and the lord who is commemorated
in the Hall of Ma’ati. You are the Hidden Soul, the lord of Qereret (Elephantine),
the holy one in the city of the White Wall (Ineb-Hetch, Memphis), the Soul
of Re, and you are of his own body. Offerings and oblations are made to
your satisfaction in 3. Suten-henen (Herakleopolis), praise in abundance
is bestowed upon you in Nart, and your Ba has been exalted as lord of the
Het-A’a (Great House) in Khemennu (Hermopolis). You are he who is greatly
feared in Shas-Hotep, the lord of eternity, the Chief of Abdu (Abydos),
your seat extends into the land of holiness (Underworld), and your name
is firmly established in the mouth of human beings. 4. You are the substance
of which the Two Lands (Khemet) were made, You are Tem, the divine food
of the Kay, you are the chief of the company of the netjeru, you are the
operative and beneficent Spirit among the spirits, you draw your waters
from the Abyss of Heaven (No), you bring along the North wind at evening
and air for your nostrils to the satisfaction of your heart. 5. Your heart
germinates, you produce the light for divine food, the height of heaven
and the Netjeru of the stars obey you, you open the great pylons of heaven,
and you are he unto whom praises are sung in Pet-reset (the Southern heaven),
and to whom adorations are performed in Pet-mehtet (the Northern heaven).
The stars which never set 6. Are under the seat of your face, and the stars
which never rest are your habitations; and unto you offerings are made
according to the decrees of the Netjer Seb (Geb). "The company of
the Netjeru praise you. The Sbau (Star-Gods) of the Tuat smell the
earth before you, and the boundaries of heaven make supplication to you
7. when they see you. Those who are among the Shepsu (holy ones)
fear you, all of the two lands give praises to you in meeting your majesty,
the glorious master, chief of masters, endowed with divine rank, established
of dominion. Beautiful Power of the company of the Netjeru Am Hri
(Gracious of face), beloved of him that sees you. You put your fear
in all lands, through love of you they proclaim your name above all others.
All men make offerings to you Neb Sekhau Em Pet Em Ta (Lord who is commemorated
in Heaven & Earth), greatly praised in the Uaq festival; the two lands
all cry out in joy to you. 9. The great one first of your divine brethren,
prince of the company of the Netjeru, Smen Ma'at Khet Taui (establisher
of right and truth throughout the two lands), who places your son upon
the great throne of Seb your father, The darling of your mother Nwt.
O you great one of two-fold strength, you have cast down Sebi, you have
slaughtered 10. your enemy, and you have set your fear in your foe.
You bring together remote boundaries, you are firm of heart, your two feet
are lifted up, you are the heir of Seb (Geb) and of the rulership of the
two lands (Khemet), who has seen your power & has given command for
you to lead 11. the two lands by your hand until the end of time.
You have made the earth in your hand, ands its waters, and its air, and
green herb and all its cattle, and all its birds, and all its fishes, and
all its reptiles, and its four footed beasts. The desert is yours
by right 12. Sa Nwt (Son of Nut), the two lands are content to crown you
on the throne of his father like Re. You rise in the horizon, you
give light through the darkness, you shine with light from your plumes,
and you flood the two lands with light like 13. the Athun (Sun Disk) at
the early sunrise. Your Hedj Crown pierces the skies, you are a brother
to the Sbau (star-gods), the guide of every Netjer, you work by decree
and word, favored one of the company of the Netjeru, who is greatly beloved
by the company of the lesser Netjeru. Your sister protected you,
and she drove away your foes, 14. and she warded off from you evil haps,
uttering the word with the power of her mouth, perfect of tongue,
with no error in her speech, operating by decree and word Iuset the strong
one, avenger of her brother. She searched for you without weariness
15. she went around this earth in sorrow, not alighting until she found
you, she made light with her feathers, creating wind with her two wings,
she made cries at the bier of her brother.
16. She raised up from inactivity the one still of heart (Asir).
She extracted his sperm, she made an heir, she nursed the babe (Haru) in
solitude and the place where she raised him is unknown, his hand is mighty
in the house 17. of Seb. The company of the Netjeru rejoice at the
coming of Asir Sa Haru, established of heart whose word is absolute Sa
Iuset AuAu Asir (son of Isis, heir of Osiris). The sovereign princes
of Ma'at gather to him, The company of the Netjeru & Neb-er-djer (Asir)
himself and the lords of Ma'at assemble with them. 18. Truly those who
remove fault rejoice in the House of Seb to bestow the rank upon its ruler,
to whom by right is all sovereignty. The voice of Haru has found
the power of Ma'at. The rank of his father has been given to him,
and he has come forth crowned 19. by the order of Seb. He has received
the Heq sceptre of the two lands, and the white Hedj crown is established
upon his head. He judges the earth according to his plan. Heaven
and Earth are under the seat of his face He commands men (ret), spirits
(akh), the dead (pAt), and the hamemet beings, Ta-Meri (khemet) the Ha-Nebu
(lords of the North) and the 20. Shentu Athun (circle of the disk)
are under his plans, also the Meht (North wind), the flood, the Ennui (celestial
waters), the staff of life & every herb. He is Nepri and
he gives his green herbs; he is the lord of the djefau food, he leads on
in abundance and he gives to all lands. 21. Everywhere is joy, hearts
are glad and hearts rejoice, every face is happy. Every place adores
his beauties. His love is doubly sweet to us, his goodness embraces
hearts and his love his great in everybody, they do 22. what is right
to the son of Iuset. His enemy has fallen before his wrath, the maker
of evil has fallen at the utterance of his voice; when the son of Iuset
the avenger of his father comes against him, shoots forth his anger in
his season. Holy and Beneficent is his name, and awe of him abides
in its place. 23. His laws are established everywhere, the path is opened,
the roads are opened, the two lands are content, wickedness leaves, evil
goes away, Ta Em Hotep (Earth is at peace) beneath its lord, Ma'at is established
by 24. its lord/ruler setting its back against iniquity. Your heart
is glad Un-Nefer Sa Iuset (this is speaking of Haru here not Asir) is glad
because he has received the white Hedj crown, and the rank of his father
is by his right side in the house of Seb. He is Re when he speaks,
Djehwti when he writes. 25. The assessors are content; what has been
ordered for you by your father Seb be performed according to his word.
May Asir, Chief of Amenti, ruler of Abdu give funeral offerings of oxen,
fowl, bandages, incense, wax, 26. gifts of all kinds of herbs, the [power
to] make transformations, mastery over the Nile, appearance as a living
soul and to see the Athun disk everyday. Entrance into and exit form
Re-stau, may my soul not be repulsed in Netjer-Khert (the underworld),
may it 27. received among the favoured ones before Un-Nefer (Asir), receiving
cakes coming forth before the altar of Netjer Aa (The great God) &
snuffing the sweet wind of the North.
